LAUGHTER greeted Peter Darby of the EDD Youth Employment Opportunity Program as he role-played in a mock interview workshop.
Fifteen eager job seekers learned how NOT to interview for a job. Darby, dressed in baggy shorts, a garish T-shirt, and dark sunglasses, came across as smug and arrogant. And he slouched in his chair in front of mock interviewers, Danise Gabriel and Lupe Bagley, EDD youth mentors.
Although the mock interview was humorous, Darby believed it drove home some important points: Be prepared and know how to conduct yourself in an interview.
Bagley agreed. Research the company, arrive 15 minutes early, bring a pen, and be aware that all eyes of the company follow your every move.
"The receptionist might be asked to watch and observe you, and take notes for the person conducting the interview," she said.
